INFORMATION AND SUGGESTIONS REGARDING AN AGREEMENT FOR
INSECT COLLECTING ACTIVITIES IN TAIWAN
The purpose of this agreement is to facilitate collecting activities during your visit in Taiwan so that you are in conformity with the regulations of the Taiwanese
Government. The agreement encourages interactions with local scientists and assists Taiwan in obtaining a better long term understanding of its biota. Conditions of the
agreement are consistent with the regulations of most governments worldwide. Collectors who do not adhere to the agreed upon conditions will not be welcome to return to the
country and will have their names published in the newsletter of the Taiwan Entomological Society as persona non granta.
Well in advance of your trip, please contact a Taiwanese institution that will serve as a co-signer for the collecting agreement. In order for them to know your qualifications,
you are encouraged to send reprints and a brief curriculum vitae. The co-signer institution may help you apply for the necessary permit(s). If you plan to collect in National Parks
or other restricted areas, additional permit(s) must be obtained. Extra time and paperwork are needed, so plan your schedule accordingly.
You are encouraged to involve local students (undergraduate or graduate) in your project whenever possible.

INSECT COLLECTING AGREEMENT
No. ENT __________________
I (_____________________________) hereby request that I be allowed to collect specimens of Taiwanese insects during my visit to Taiwan. I would like to have your help in obtaining the appropriate permits (for local and protected areas) and agree to the following conditions.
1. All holotypes and some paratypes (exact number of paratypes to be agreed upon by all parties involved) will be returned to the National Museum of Natural Science (and/or _________________________________________). At least one copy of all publications based on this material will be provided to the museum (and/or the above mentioned institution).
2. Every third individual (up to 20 specimens) of each morphospecies, up to 10 of each sex (when possible to sex specimens without dissection), of the collected specimens will be returned mounted and labeled and sent to the National Museum of Natural Science (and/or __________________________________________). Specimens should be returned identified to the lowest taxonomic level possible within two years of the Taiwan expedition. If more time is required, a loan can be arranged with the National Museum of Natural Science (and/or the above mentioned institution).
3. Whoever works on the specimens based on my Taiwan expedition, it is my responsibility to inform the user to follow the above agreements.
4. No endangered species on the CITES list or on the Taiwan Endangered Species List (Appendix 1) are to be collected without special permission.
